Abstract: The introduction of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) can affect performance in a negative way. This exacerbates the application of SOA to systems for bulk data processing. This paper describes specific aspects of Service-Oriented Architectures that impact performance particularly. It discusses several approaches to these issues that are currently established and motivates the need for a framework to implement an SOA for bulk data processing systems.
