Optimizing application performance with QoS support of Real-Time data for Ad-Hoc Networks

Multi-hop ad-hoc networks have a wide range of application but, due to the inherent contention and interference, such environments have poor Quality of Service support for real time traffics. Two classes of solutions have been proposed for QoS provisioning: admission control and traffic control, but these solutions are still far from optimal. One of the core problems still involved is that, in such environments, throughput gradually decreases as the path length increases. The aim of this project is to design medium access mechanisms and sharing algorithms to improve overall network utilization and fairness and to ensure that network applications requirement are met. The novel aspect of the approach is to combine factors such as path length and application demands into the packet scheduling process.


The research will start with a comprehensive literature survey to identify the state of the art in the area of QoS for ad-hoc networks. In order to alleviate the current problems, the relationship between hop-count and throughput in ad-hoc networks will be explored and a dynamic scheduler will be designed to provide fairness across user applications.
